Hi Lisa,

I hope you are enjoying your week, and Halloween. I have a project I want to send to you
https://medium.com/@saranesteruk

I have set up an account on Medium, it’s a blog platform, I love the interface, and there are design articles, I got the idea of using it from the Interactive Design MA at LCC. This is my first post.

I am thinking about my writing too, I’m going to publish the text I spoke to you and Simon about on here. It’s going to be in 3 parts, based on my first 3 keywords, and the piles of books I had and made, when I saw you.

Raw
The first is raw. I’m going to start with a drawing of the books I have made. This is the Soviet Material. It is raw, because it isn’t. Highly processed, seductive, and beautiful. And also, high energy, fresh, and charged, with a force of will, behind it. New. And, raw, because there is something painful in it. The unresolution, between the Soviet ideal, and how people actually really experienced themselves, their lifestyles and culture. And raw too, in it’s immediacy. And the way it was produced. A lot of the material is very low-fi in it’s produced, untreated, and DIY, it’s unprinted, uncoated, board, and simple production processes, screen-printed and litho production, using minimal colours, and it feels raw and tactile, to the touch, and also in it’s aesthetic, the charm, and beauty of this kind of work, for me, is in how it is simple and revealing. I love how the Soviet Designers, were designers. The people who made posters, designed bridges and buildings. Design, and poetry too, in Ukraine and in the Soviet Union generally, is revered, I hope is the right way to use the word, everybody, it is valued, and held in high esteem. The ideas, and ideals, behind life, and art, is considered critical, vital, it has an energy behind it, a raw, and important aspect to life.

My next word is unprocessed, and the next book-pile, when I showed you and Simon, is the book I have about Japanese Nō Dramas. Translated. Unprocessed, I haven’t, I haven’t, have, unprocessed because it is a skeletal structure. And old, and timely, and still relevant.

My third word, I have two choices, and my third pile of books in my Bakhtin collection. I prefer the photocopies I have, of his writings and ideas, the book I have from MMU is interesting, it is somebody else’s ideas, about his writing, and I like, my ideas better,

Have a great weekend,

Sara
